The National Association of Intercollegiate Racing (NAIR) is building a collegiate motorsports education and workforce-development program that combines structured learning with organized sim racing competition.
NAIR currently works with more than 20 universities across the United States and is developing curriculum for motorsports support roles including race strategy, engineering, data analysis, marketing, media, team management, and event operations.
Education Applied Through Competition
NAIR uses simulated racing as the practical environment where students can apply what they learn.
The program is built around a continuing cycle:
Learn → Apply → Combine → Repeat
Students learn the fundamentals of motorsports roles, apply those skills during organized competition, review the results, and continue developing their knowledge through repeated practical experience.
Collegiate Competition
NAIR organizes intercollegiate sim racing competition for university students representing their schools.
The championship environment includes:
- University-based teams and drivers
- Live race broadcasts
- Race control and stewarding
- Structured team operations
- Student participation in strategy, data, marketing, media, and management roles
- National competition between participating universities
The competition is designed to function as an application environment for the broader educational program rather than as a standalone esports league.
Building Motorsports Curriculum
NAIR is developing curriculum around the professional roles required to operate a race team and motorsports organization.
Curriculum development is being informed by professionals and organizations with experience across Formula 1, IndyCar, IMSA, professional GT racing, collegiate motorsports, sim racing, and academic curriculum development.
The objective is to give students structured exposure to motorsports careers that extend beyond driving and mechanical work.
Industry and Education Connections
NAIR is also developing relationships across motorsports, simulation, education, and technology to create stronger connections between students and the professional industry.
Current relationships and collaborations include organizations involved in professional racing, driver development, simulation equipment, university motorsports, and academic esports.
Looking Ahead
NAIR’s focus is the continued development of its collegiate championship, motorsports curriculum, university network, and industry relationships.
The long-term objective is to create a defined pathway through which students can learn motorsports skills, apply them in competition, build practical experience, and prepare for professional opportunities within the motorsports industry.
